Prep time: 10 mins

Cooking time: 20 mins

Serves: 1

Ingredients

100g firm tofu, diced into bite size pieces

1/2 tsp white pepper

1/2 tsp Chinese five spice powder

1/2 tsp paprika

1 tsp garlic salt

1 tsp sesame seeds

2 tsp sesame oil

1/2 chopped spring onion, to serve

Seasoning

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp Chinese five spice

1/2 tsp chilli flakes

Method

  1. Combine tofu with all the ingredients except for the spring onion. Let sit while you prep the other ingredients.

  2. Mix together the seasoning ingredients and mix evenly before setting aside.

  3. Open your air fryer tray, and spray with olive oil, before placing the tofu evenly covering the base.

  4. Push the tray in, set your air fryer to 200 degrees Celsius, and turn on for 10 minutes.

  5. At the 6 minute mark, take out the tofu, flip them over, and repeat.

  6. Once finished, take out the tofu pieces, sprinkle your seasoning mix and top with the chopped spring onion and serve.

Notes

  • If you don't have an air fryer, you can easily do this on the stove top.

  • For extra crispness, dust the tofu with tapioca flour or rice flour before putting into the air fryer.

  • You can do other flavorings if spicy isn't your thing. A lemon zest, oregano, salt and pepper mix would work well. So would paprika, dried basil, salt and pepper. You can really get as creative as you want.

  • You can also mix up a dipping sauce if you wanted. Japanese mayo with wasabi would be tasty or regular mayo with Sriracha would be yum. For something tangy mix together some soy sauce, lime juice, mayo and chili powder.

  • Cubed king oyster mushrooms, cauliflower, diced chicken or tempeh are all great substitutes for tofu if you don't like tofu. Cooking times will vary so keep an eye on it.
